13-Year Tenure Ends Amidst Rumors of Team Turmoil

Carlisle Led Mavericks to 2011 NBA Championship

WEB Rick Carlisle resigned as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, ending his 13-year tenure with the team. The move comes just one week after the Mavericks fired general manager Donnie Nelson, amid reports of internal strife within the organization.

Carlisle, who led the Mavericks to their only NBA championship in 2011, informed Mavericks owner Mark Cuban of his decision to step down on Thursday morning. The team has not yet announced a replacement for Carlisle, who is one of the most successful coaches in franchise history.

The Mavericks have struggled in recent years, failing to make the playoffs in three of the past four seasons. They finished with a 33-49 record this past season, missing the playoffs once again.

Carlisle's departure is the latest in a series of changes for the Mavericks. In addition to firing Nelson, the team recently traded Kristaps Porzingis to the Washington Wizards. It remains to be seen how the Mavericks will rebuild under new leadership.
